Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis and How to Teach Language to Children with Autism and Related Disabilities
The purpose of this workshop is to describe the basic principles and the ABA methods that have demonstrated benefit with children with autism. To accomplish this the presenter will describe the current literature that supports this approach and emphasize methods for teaching language to children with autism who do not acquire this skill typically. Many video illustrations of teaching methods in school and clinical settings will be presented to illustrate the application of this scientific approach to education and treatment.

Advanced Topics in Teaching Language to Children with Autism
The purpose of this presentation is to describe some current topics in the behavior analytic approach to teaching verbal behavior and how this information can be used to improve the instruction of children with autism. Research and clinical applications related to joint stimulus control and teaching advanced language skills will be discussed. Each of the topics will be addressed during half day presentations during the full day workshop. Within the discussion of each topic a review of the current research and conceptual analysis will precede an overview of clinical application. In addition, numerous video illustrations of implementation of instructional methods in various settings will support the discussion.
